Depending on where you live, you may have very little area to have a garden. Here’s a brilliant solution: A Vertical Pallet Planter! And, you don’t have to spend a lot. You can make one for 30 dollars.

Vertical Pallet Planter:

First, obtain a pallet and sand down the wood enough to remove the splinters and very rough areas. Next, I painted it with milk paint the same color as our deck. Martha Stewart’s site has an excellent recipe for homemade milk paint if you don’t wish to purchase it commercially. I made pockets for plants out of landscaping cloth and included a pocket at the top front and back to run a square dowel through. The dowel in the front pocket was 2 inches longer than the width of the side rails of the pallet. The dowel for the back of the pocket was slightly narrower than the inside width of the side rails.

Vertical Pallet Planter – finishing up…

After I had inserted the dowels, I fitted the pockets into the spaces between the slats in the pallet – I nailed three heavy duty u-shaped staples in a U-shaped position at the back on both sides to form a hook in place for the back dowel. You can see my complete directions on my Etsy store.
