Here’s our project we made for our 3-year-old son: a Child’s Pallet Cabin Bed. Most of the build was fairly easy, but the longest part was sanding and varnishing the wood.

How we built our Child’s Pallet Cabin Bed:

We didn’t have a plan; we just designed as we went, but sized it to the main pallet used as the pallet bed frame. First, we built the frame by using the stringer boards from another large pallet that we disassembled. We sized it just slightly larger than the mattress. The main supports are four stringer boards on the corners of the bed frame pallet, and we mounted them securely to the pallet blocks. We used more stringer boards to frame out the roof and added one additional stringer to create a doorway.

We clad the sides with deck boards, mounting some horizontally as the headboard, but mounted others vertically to give that illusion of a fence. On the outside of the footboard, we coated a medium pan with magnetic paint for hanging magnets. You could have fun with this idea and use chalk paint instead, or even acrylic to create a dry-erase board.

Finishing it off:

Next, we framed out the “window” of the cabin and created a little window ledge with more deck boards, and finally applied deck boards to create the roof. Everything was sanded carefully, and most of the frame was painted in a glossy white, and the remaining boards were stained and sealed to let their natural beauty show through.

Our little one loves the new Child’s Pallet Cabin Bed, and this project makes bedtime something to look forward to. For variation, you could install small LED lights that could be a night-light or just decorative!

Great job! I did one for my twins as a “reading nook”. They are in there every day — sometimes even reading!

That’s lovely! Very nice job. Did you share it as a post on 1001pallets.com? It’s CUTE and I know the crafters would get a kick out of it. Just snap a photo or two of the inside so they know how it’s built and send it in with a quick description! https://www.1001pallets.com/pallet-ideas-send-us/ Thanks for sharing it! – HS.
