We needed to replace two exterior doors due to rot from years of exposure. We made this Pallet Door Set Surrounding Matching Planter Box trio instead of spending lots of money for ordinary doors. And, this project only cost around 70 dollars!
Pallet Door Set Surrounding Matching Planter Box – the doors:
I had two sheets of leftover plywood from a previous project, so I used these as the base (back panel) for both doors. We needed long boards for the sides of the doors, so we purchased the side beams. I used a reciprocating saw to break down the pallets. Then, I removed all the nails and ran each board through the planer and jointer. Next, I gave each board a light sanding to bevel the edges. This helped make each panel stand out. I used a lot of Gorilla Glue and 30-mm screws to attach everything together.
Pallet Door Set Surrounding Matching Planter Box – the box:
First, I framed out a basic box shape. I lined the bottom with pallet boards, putting them tightly. Next, I added more boards to create the legs, so the box wasn’t sitting flush to the ground. I covered all the sides with pallet boards. We lined the planter and then filled it up. Some of the boards were recycled from the first pair of rotten doors.
Pallet Door Set Surrounding Matching Planter Box – finishing it up:
I treated each door and planter box with four coats of an oil based wood stain. The rain just beads on the surface and rolls off. I found the wrought iron handles on eBay.
