After some work in the house, there is a place where it was not possible to install a classic trapdoor with retractable stairs. So we had to face the facts, I needed a homemade trapdoor. Why not try to make it with upcycled pallet wood?
Considering its position, the hatch could only open upwards. In other obligations, the hatch must be airtight. The aim here is also to prevent heat from escaping unnecessarily into the attic.
In short, here I am on a project that I want to be 100% upcycled. The door leaf will be made from glued laminate in which the holes will be closed with a mixture of sawdust glue.
The hinges were lying in my stock and the handle came from a drawer that had been dismantled a few days earlier.
In this project, what took the longest was not the building itself but the adjustment of the hatch to the hole which was not perfectly rectangular. After few hours of work, we arrived at a correct result even if not perfect.
Après des travaux dans la maison, il y a un endroit ou il n’était pas possible d’installer une trappe classique avec escalier escamotable. Il a donc fallu se rendre à l’évidence, il me fallait une trappe maison.
Pourquoi ne pas essayer de la faire en palette ? Au vu de sa position, la trappe ne pouvait que s’ouvrir vers le haut. Dans les autres obligations, la trappe doit être étanche à l’air. Le but ici est également d’éviter que de la chaleur s’échappe inutilement dans le grenier.
Bref, me voila parti sur un projet que je veux 100% récupération. Le tablier de la trappe va être en lamellé collé dans lequel les trous seront bouchés avec un mélange colle sciure. Les charnières trainaient dans mes stocks et la poignée venait d’un tiroir démonté quelques jours avant.
Ici ce qui a pris le plus de temps n’était pas la construction en elle même mais l’ajustement au trou de la trappe qui n’était pas parfaitement rectangulaire. Bref après quelques heures de travail, nous arrivons a un résultat correct même si pas parfait.
