I saw a few styles of wooden earrings on Pinterest, and it intrigued me. I wondered if I could make some earrings I’d like to wear, and with the holidays, I decided to try to make a few sets for friends while I was at it.
I used all pine pallet wood and looked for sections with interesting knots or another character. I made different shapes, from rounds to “dagger” shapes, and even did a pair of teardrops. I sealed some with several coats of polyurethane, and left a few pairs natural, choosing to use tung oil to obtain a more natural finish.
The rounds were made with a drill press/hole saw. The other shapes I hand-whittled down to the general shape I wanted and then used a small set of files to obtain the final size/shape.
I mounted them several different ways; some I drilled all the way through so that I could make them more of a dangly style while others I drilled only the top and used tiny eyelets. I went to my local crafts/hobby store for various jewelry findings and just had a ball. I think I may make more and have more ideas after doing these first few. I hope you enjoy them, and they inspire you to some great projects out there!
