Adirondack chairs are classic; stylish. Pallet Adirondack chairs are great. But this Modern-Twist Pallet Adirondack Chair makes you stop and take a second look. Dare to be different!

Modern-Twist Pallet Adirondack Chair – the beginning:

First, I cut a pallet in half along one side of the center stringer. Next, I cut one of the halves down somewhat for the seatback height. Then, I cut four stringer boards down to the leg length I wanted. I used the arched section of a stringer board to create the front and rear frame of the seat. The legs were attached to the seat with fasteners. Then I split a deck board down and used thin pieces to provide additional leg stabilization. I mounted them about halfway between the bottom of the seat and the ground. I covered the seat with more deck boards, installing them tightly for seating comfort.

Modern-Twist Pallet Adirondack Chair – seat back and finishing:

Before I could install the seat back, I wanted to shape it. I rounded the corners over, both for how it looks and for how it’ll feel when you put your hand on it. Also, I cut the pallet blocks so that they sloped down from the top of the seat back.  I installed the seat back and secured it to the rear legs and back of the seat. For something different, I rounded the seat back, and the armrests with similar curves. I installed the arm rests and secured them with fasteners. To finish, I sanded everything down smooth but was careful to leave the pallet markings intact. I haven’t applied any finishes yet. I still have to decide what I want to do. :) Let me know what you think. Should I paint it? Stain it? Just seal it?

Your efforts to keep the pallet marks in the boards shows a rustic finish. I like the looks of it “a natural” so for me keep it looking like you made it and not someone else. Good job.

I like making wood projects and I think your chair would look great if you just clear coat it. I like seeing the beauty of the wood.
You did a great job. keep it up
