My wife’s daughter tasked me with making a bed for her new puppy! Ok, so after stripping several pallets for planks I ran them through the saw bench just to kiss the edges. Sand all around with 60 Grit paper.
Glue and clamp batches to build the walls. This bed was to fit an 80x60x15 cm dog mattress so I designed it to be 2cm bigger all round.
After the glue was dry, I cut the boards to length and routed over the top edge. I applied two coats of clear water-based varnish. Glued and screwed the 4 sides together.
I used some of the bigger timber from the pallets for the feet/runners. In the same process, kiss the sides with the saw and sand. I found some more planks for the base, each one I routed over the edges as I wanted to keep them spaced apart.
More varnish…
Finally, after fixing the runners on I lightly sanded the whole frame with a fine paper and gave it a final varnish.
Job done. Just under 3 days.
