We made this Party Ready Pallet Bottle Cap Catcher after my husband bought us a cool bottle opener for our new deck. At first, we tried only attaching the bottle opener mechanism by itself to the post, but this made a huge mess. The caps flew everywhere! The husband said, "Hey, let's make a bottle cap catcher!".

Party Ready Pallet Bottle Cap Catcher:

With scrap pieces of pallet wood, it was easy. First, I used a longer piece for the backing. Next, I cut others to make the rectangular box and planned on butt-joining them. I fastened the pieces together using Gorilla Glue and some screws. These were installed through the long backer piece from the back side. I added a few galvanized nails to the piece for a decorative look. Pre-drill the holes so the galvanized nails don't split the wood.

Party Ready Pallet Bottle Cap Catcher - have you ever questioned a design decision?

Next, I drilled a few holes in the bottom piece so water would drain out easily. Then, I attached a set of small hinges to the door and the frame. I installed a simple hook and eye latch to keep the gate closed. I realized, in my haste to construct the catcher, that the bottom wouldn't open if I left it as-is! To correct this, I added a couple backing blocks to bump it out from the post This simple fix corrected my design flaw. Finally, I attached the bottle cap opener to cover over one of the screws for a cleaner look.

Our Party Ready Pallet Bottle Cap Catcher works great and is super handy! We may end up applying a UV-protective varnish to the piece long-term, but I haven't decided if I want to also stain it ... or maybe paint it instead.
