Outdoor Pallet Coffee Table – doing pallet projects can teach you some things!
Continuing with my personal experience in the pallet world, I refined the painting technique. This allowed me to achieve a finer result (compared to my pallet couch) and save paint. I started scrubbing the pallet carefully with lukewarm water and a bit of bleach to eliminate the impurities. This also lightened the wood a bit and opened the wood fibers. After that, I sanded the surface with a medium weight paper (I recommend using a unique pad and using work gloves). Next, I cleaned the residue with a brush and then I began painting.
Handy tips when painting an Outdoor Pallet Coffee Table or other outdoor projects:
Use a water-emulsion (two-component) silk effect paint. It costs about 18 € per tin. I purchased mine at a large hobby store (Leroymerlin, Bricoman, etc.). A small tin is sufficient for painting a pallet (it does not need a second coat). The quality of the pallets is very important! The denser the wood is (the less porous), the less paint absorption. Plus, dense woods usually last longer. Another tip for painting: it is better to start painting varnish cubes on all four sides, then go to the lower slats and then finish with the top ones. Good fun!!
Editor’s note: Emulsion paints are used as the exterior coating on blocks and plasterwork. Emulsion paints have some advantages over oil-based coatings. They’re better able to bind to the substrate and penetrate better.

Proseguendo con la mia personalissima esperienza nel mondo pellet, ho affinato la tecnica di verniciatura, ottenendo un miglior risultato finale (rispetto al divano) e riuscendo a risparmiare sulla vernice stessa.
Ho cominciato lavando accuratamente il pallet con acqua tiepida e un poco di candeggina, in modo da eliminare le impurità, sbiancarlo un poco e far si che i pori del legno si aprissero. Dopo di che, ho carteggiato la superficie con una carta di grammatura media (consiglio l’utilizzo di un tampone apposito e l’utilizzo di guanti da lavoro), ho pulito i residui con uno scopino e poi sono passato alla verniciatura.
Il consiglio che do per la verniciatura è di utilizzare un impregnante gel all’acqua (bi-componente) con effetto seta, ha un costo di circa 18 € a latta, si trova nei grandi negozi di hobbystica (Leroymerlin, Bricoman, ecc…) ed è sufficiente per la verniciatura di un pallet (non necessita di una seconda mano).
La qualità del pellet, è molto importante, più è di buon legno (meno poroso) più sarà la resa della pittura, risparmiandone anche parecchia.
Altro consiglio per la verniciatura: è preferibile cominciare a verniciare i cubi di sostegno in tutti e quattro i lati, poi passare alle assicelle inferiori per poi finire con quelle superiori. Buon divertimento!!
