Kex hostel is located in Reykjavik Iceland. The interior design is furnished with salvaged materials and found objects from various places. The pallet wood floor was designed by Högni Stefán Þorgeirsson, founder of Arctic Plank. Högni took the opportunity to make a flooring only out of recycled wooden pallets. The concept of wooden pallet hardwood flooring from Arctic Plank and the concept of Kex hostel turned out to be a perfect match!
Iceland has planted a lot of trees but most are less than 25 years old and can’t make usable saw timber yet. They build the most remarkable things out of pallets, as many more things arrive in their isolated country on pallets than leave on pallets. Any wood is just about a precious substance there, after sheep ate their trees 900 years ago. They are the kings of pallet recycling.
