Rustic Pallet Porch Rocker

The best of both worlds: an Adirondack Chair and a Rocking Chair combined into my Rustic Pallet Porch Rocker. This took four pallets to build and about ten hours total.

How I made my best-of-both-worlds Rustic Pallet Porch Rocker:

First, I cut one pallet lengthwise and then cut that in half to make the seat part of the rocker. I removed the top boards from a second pallet, selecting the three longest and widest pieces to form the backrest. I found some old landscaping ties at a construction site that were used as dividers for shipping metal gates and cut these lengthwise. I thought they looked rustic enough to use as the legs and armrest. I cut the landscaping ties again after I got my measurements for arms and legs. I found an old heavy-duty pallet (like the ones used for heavy equipment) that had 2×6″ boards as its base.

I made a template from a rocker we have at home and cut the curves for the rocker. I assembled these using a screw gun and 2 1/2″ screws for heavy wood and 1 5/8″ screws for lighter wood. I mitered the legs for under the armrest. I did sand the pieces as I went and then filled in screws holes with wood filler. I had sanded the filled-in areas before I painted the rocker. The total build took me about ten hours, and I used about four pallets, but I didn’t have to spend any money on this project! That’s always great!
