It’s my very first table from pallets. My first time building anything like this. My boyfriend is usually the one making the items, and I’m the one finishing them with sanding, and more sanding, followed by paint, stain, lacquer, etc. He was busy working on projects for customers and didn’t seem to want to mess with my idea: So, after a little motivation from a late night Kreg jig infomercial, I decided to make it myself. I mean, they make it look so easy!
Taking the pallets apart. Oh, my, definitely NOT an easy task! Especially if you need all the nails out to be able to run them thru the planer & jointer. It’s a must do for a solid table. Using the Kreg jig for the legs and sides wasn’t that bad…. However, the infomercial didn’t cover some key steps (or I didn’t listen good enough) for matching your bit length with the wood….. so, I drilled a nice little hole in it :( = Boyfriend NOT happy! He decided to offer some instruction & help out after that mishap. I let him hold the wood for me while I used the power tools, which is the fun part.After the frame was finished, I planed wood to 1/2 inch, random widths, and placed them at the bottom and top. Each piece was glued and brad nailed in place onto the frame. Only had to use a little wood filler and sand everything relatively smooth. Stained the table top pieces and applied several clear coats. After it was dry, I taped it off and then painted the cigs and crossbars in a contrasting color that I found in the oops pile at Lowes.
