The neighbors and I wanted to dress up the front of the building and make a more pleasant patio area. We got together and made this set of patio pallet planters from 20 pallets. We completed this project in about 20 hours or so.

A beautiful and budget-friendly addition to any porch, patio, backyard, poolside or outdoor area!

These are pretty enough that they'd look good indoors, too. Just line the planters VERY well OR use the box to disguise a well-drained pot with an excellent catch basin. First, cut pallet deck boards (or use the stringers or upcycle 4x4" posts) to the height you want your planters to be. Next, install top and bottom frames to connect the legs, and add cross-bracing, at least along the bottom to support the bottom. Install the bottom boards. Add pallet deck boards for the sides in the direction you choose - either vertically or horizontally and secure with screws. Cut more deck boards to length and either butt-join or miter the corners for the top trim. Finally, cut more boards for your diagonals on the exterior.

Can also be made to be self-watering!

Line the planters with a heavy, durable plastic. Either plan for drainage with a layer of gravel, add a drain with a scrap of PVC pipe or use a pot with built-in drainage. Additionally, you can make this into a self-watering planter. If you use these planters for edibles, use a food-safe liner, such as a heavy-duty pond membrane. Fill with the soil blend of your choice, plant some shrubs and flowers, then sit back and enjoy your hard work!

Here's a similar style of planter box. Add the bottom horizontal boards to connect the legs to make the box even more stable as shown in the project pictures. Just add the diagonal board as a decorative touch on smaller planters, or as additional side support on larger planters.

Lovely workmanship! Surely these planters will inspire others. How about making a fun area so the kiddies can learn to garden too, like this sandbox and flowerbed?
