This was a build for a good friend of mine. My buddy Ruben dropped off this wine barrel and said half was his and half was mine. So off, I went to build this wine barrel Coffee Table now that everyone knows I love working with pallets.
So, I dismantled 2 wood pallets. Some for my tabletop and some for the base of the table. To cut the barrel in half, I used a skill saw with a grinder wheel to cut metal bands but first I had to place screws in metal bands so the barrel doesn’t fall apart.
Once I completed the cuts of the metal bands I had my two halves. I used some 3/4 plywood to cut out shapes for the wine barrel base. Once shaped were cut I covered with pallet to achieve the image I wanted. Then, I had to build the tabletop.
The tabletop was created from a little more than one pallet. I choose to use jacobean and special walnut for the stain. I finished off this project with a nice finish of polyurethane.
