I wanted to update our bathroom but didn’t want to spend a ton, so I made this Bathroom Vanity Set from three pallets. An end grain inlay was added to the front of the cabinet doors to make it truly unique and interesting.
Bathroom Vanity Set – Mirror Frame:
I made the mirror frame using wood glue and joined it together with pocket screws. I built a simple jig for my belt sander to smooth out the edges of the pallet boards. Next, I used a belt sander, followed by a finishing sander on the back frame. I used a router on the two side pieces using a Roman ogee bit and did the same for the shelves and light fixture frame. I upcycled light fixtures that were already there from a previous mirror frame. So, all I had to do was switch off the power, disconnect the light fixtures and insert them into the new frame. I finished the frame with linseed oil to help bring out the natural grain.
Bathroom Vanity Set – Cabinets:
I don’t have a jointer or table saw or a sufficiently long straight router bit for what I had in mind. So, I used a sliding miter saw to get the edges as smooth as possible. Next, I glued several deck boards together and clamped them firmly. I then cut across the grain to get the centerpieces that I wanted to “inlay” into the doors. Then I had to do more glue and clamping. I used the miter saw again to get the top and bottom straight, and repeated it for the side panels of the cabinet. Additionally, I used some scrap plywood for the base and countertop part, which I routered using a round-over bit.
Bathroom Vanity Set – Finishing it up:
I basically eyeballed the cut to fit around the sink, and haven’t sealed it with silicone yet. All the joints were attached with numerous pocket screws. Additionally, I finished the cabinets like the mirror using several coats of Linseed oil.
