My mom dreamed of having a new kitchen, but the budget had long prevented updates. She stayed in her 70s-old kitchen with aging tiles, warped paneling, and heavy dark brown furniture. With the help of my dad, we decided to redo everything, focusing on upcycling and staying within budget. We chose to clad part of the room and created a Pallet Kitchen Wall.
Update tired paneling or outdated decor with a Pallet Kitchen Wall!
First, we prepared the wall with smooth concrete before applying the pallet boards. We painted the surface black to have a dark, uniform background with uneven boards. Next, we attached the supports for the pallet paneling to the wall. I installed the cladding, skirting around the door frame. Then we installed a set of shelves with integrated lamps. The supports for the paneling were fixed in the wall, and the cladding was placed. We wrapped the pallet wall around the door frame and fixtures. Finally, we installed a shelf with integrated lamps. The project wasn’t hard in itself, but it took a lot of attention to detail for a clean look. The finish was done with a white patina to keep the room as light as possible. This project had the whole family working together which made my mother even more pleased!

Ma maman rêvait depuis longtemps d’avoir une nouvelle cuisine, sauf que le temps faisant et le budget manquant, elle restait dans sa vieille cuisine année 70 constituée de vieux carrelage au gout douteux, de lambris vieillissant et de meubles massif et brun foncé. Avec l’aide de mon père nous avons décidé de tout refaire, avec un maximum de récup au vu du budget serré. Ici vu que nous parlons de palettes, nous allons nous concentré sur le bardage. Pour refaire une partie du mur, nous avons décidé de faire le dessous en béton lissé, et le dessus avec un bardage en palettes.
Le mur a d’abord été repeint en noir pour avoir un fond uni et sombre. De cette manière pas de souci si les planches s’écartent, ensuite les supports pour le lambris ont été fixés dans le mur, le bardage placé, ensuite des plinthes tout autour et enfin l’installation d’une étagère avec lampes intégrées. Le projet n’était super technique en soit mais il a nécessité beaucoup de minuties afin d’avoir quelque chose de propre et sympa. La finition s’est faite avec une patine blanche afin de garder la pièce la plus claire possible. Bref un chouette projet de rénovation qui nous a permis de travailler ensemble avec mon père et qui a fait plaisir à ma mère.
