Let the light shine through! I made this Deluxe Pallet Canine Cabin for a neighbor who wanted to get his dog out of the cold. It was a Christmas gift for their family.
How I made this Deluxe Pallet Canine Cabin:
To start, I used spruce 2×4″ boards ripped in half for the frame. Next, I installed some of the pallet slats beneath the frame to keep the floor dry and direct any rainwater. I used a brad nailer to attach the pallet slats to the frame. Then, I used leftover plywood from other projects as the flooring and secured it to the frame. Additionally, I used plywood as the sub-roof material. Note that I cut the front of the cabin taller to create a good pitch for the roof. I clad the sides with pallet deck boards, shingling them by letting them overlap one another to propel water away from the cabin. The pallets slats were Brad nailed in. I added a small plexiglass window above the front entrance!
Deluxe Pallet Canine Cabin – Options:
You could add a doggy door or a scrap piece of rug that you partially slice through to create flaps, or similar materials to reduce the cold/wet weather from getting in. Add any pillows or padding you like!
**Editor’s note: “Low-Pitched” roofs are those that rise less than 3.5″ for every foot of length. So if the roof of a doghouse is 36″ front-to-back, then the front would rise a total of 10.5 or less. A “standard” or “medium” roof pitch is 3.5 to 7.5″ for every 1 foot of length. “High pitched” or “steep pitched” roofs are those that rise 7.5″ or greater per 1 foot of length. Source: myroof.com
