Daughter’s First Bed Using Pallets / Un Lit En Palette Sur Roulette

For my daughter’s 2^nd birthday, she received her First Bed Using Pallets. Even though I made it with pallets, I wanted it as durable as possible. I built it to the size of an adult pallet bed, except with the rails that I can remove in a few years. I may also only move it into a spare bedroom instead of disassembling it.

Our Daughter’s First Bed Using Pallets:

First, I started with a pallet of 260cm x 120cm. I cut it down to 200cm x 90cm and used it for the box spring. Then I used the remaining pieces from to make the footboard. Next, I cut a euro pallet lengthwise, and that is the base of the headboard. I filled the gaps between the pallet deck boards with extra boards cut lengthwise. The barriers are upcycled pine boards recovered when dismantling a pine bar. The bed was placed on five wheels so that it could be moved quickly.

First Bed Using Pallets – Challenges:

The biggest problem to manage is especially the size of the different parts and to assemble them alone (the head of the bed to the foundation in particular). I assembled the project using screws to secure it together. Finally, I applied a clear varnish after a light sanding to keep the rustic aspect of the pallet wood

Pour ses deux ans, ma fille a reçu un lit « de grande ». Pour cela et pour avoir un lit le plus durable possible, il a été construit à la taille d’un lit pour adulte. La seule différence avec un lit normal est les barrière de chaque côté. Il pourra être réutilisé dans une chambre d’ami simplement en dévissant les barrières si ma fille n’en veut plus dans quelques années.

Au niveau technique : Une palette de 260cm sur 120cm recoupée en 200cm x 90cm a servi pour le sommier. Les chutes de cette palette ont servi pour faire le pied de lit. La tête du lit est quand à elle faite sur base d’une euro palette recoupé sur la longueur. L’espace entre les planches est quand a lui rempli avec des planches de palettes coupées sur la longueur. Les barrières quand à elle sont des planches de pin récupérées lors du démontage d’un bar en pin. Le lit a été placé sur 5 roues afin de pouvoir être déplacé facilement.

Le plus gros problème à gérer est surtout la taille des différentes parties et de les assembler seul (la tête du lit au sommier notamment). Le reste de la construction n’est qu’un simple assemblage fait avec des vis.

La finition quand à elle a été faite avec un vernis transparent après un léger ponçage afin de garder l’aspect « rustique ».

The rails can be removed when our daughter is a bit older. :)

We added casters (5 of them total) to make it easy to clean the floors or rearrange the room as our daughter gets older.
