Buy a new screen door? Psh, I think not! Instead, here’s a Diy Pallet Screen Door for about a third of the price of a cheap aluminum one. Our grandmother needed a new screen door, and of course, she’s on a budget. We thought we’d save her some money and do a good deed. :)
I started by measuring the door opening and height. Next, I cut my vertical and horizontal boards to length. Since I do not have mortise and tenon equipment, I decided to notch my boards to sit atop each other and be level (a half-lap joint). After I notched all my boards appropriately, I squared all of my corners and applied Gorilla glue. I clamped all the corners together tightly. Next, I drilled 2 holes in all of my wooden joints and used more wood glue and wooden dowels to secure them even more. I trimmed the dowels flush with the boards.
First I sanded everything down fairly smooth. Then I stained and sealed the wood. When everything was dry, I added the screen and trimmed to fit. I used a staple gun and staples to secure the wire. For a little variation, I purchased some pre-made decorative molding. I trimmed it to length, mitered the corners, then stained and sealed it. Finally, I installed it with brad nails over the staple lines and end of the screen. Ta-da! We have a new screen door. Now to get some hinges and a latch mechanism of some kind and get this door installed!
