Pallet Children’s Picnic Table For Ten Bucks!

Here’s my second pallet project – a Pallet Children’s Picnic Table. To make this project, you’ll need two pallets and about ten dollars for hardware. It’s fairly easy, and we think it came out great!

My Pallet Children’s Picnic Table – the table top:

First, start by assembling the table top. Depending on the width of your deck boards, you may have more or fewer slats to get the approximate dimensions you want. Cut two table supports from pallet stringers (or 2×4″ boards) and trim the ends so that they will be flush with the A-Frame legs. Cut your tabletop boards to length, plane and/or sand them to the smoothness you desire. Next, install them onto the table supports, pre-drilling and countersinking the hardware. Cut and install a center support that will run between the two table supports.

Cut four lengths of stringer boards (or 2×4″ boards) to length and angle both ends. Pre-drill and mount the legs to the table supports using long deck screws or lag bolts (as shown in the picture). Additionally, use wood glue between the joints. Your table should be able to stand alone at this point. Cut and install two horizontal stringer boards that will support the bench seat. Install the horizontal boards with lag bolts after pre-drilling. It is optional to install the bench supports on either the inside or outside of the A-Frame legs. Cut two boards that will run from the center of the horizontal seat supports to the table and install. These brace boards will provide additional stability.

The measure, prep,  and cut deck boards for the seat. Depending on the width, you can use one or two boards as appropriate. Pre-drill and install the boards to the horizontal seat supports. Optionally, use a router to round over all the edges or sand them to the smoothness you desire. Stain the project and seal it with a UV-resistant varnish, or for more protection, apply 2-3 coats of a good-quality exterior primer/paint. Be sure to fully encapsulate the wood with either method to extend the longevity of the piece.
