This project used some wonderful, rustic floorboards to create a fabulous headboard. Here’s our upcycled floorboard becomes a headboard, lit up and ready to use.
We built this project to our particular desired dimensions for length, width, and height. However, it seems that most beds tend to be built with two layers of pallets for a comfortable height. We wanted our bed to be wider so that you could sit up on edge. We thought it would be nice to be able to put on your shoes, or just enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the morning. To emphasize the size of the bed, we purposely made our pallet headboard a bit narrower. We kept the natural uneven pieces of reclaimed wood floorboard planks as-is. Sealed the project, and then mounted two reading lamps to the tallest pieces of the headboard.
We painted the pallet bed portion a gray color. Then, we did some light coloring on the flooring boards too, rubbing most of the paint off for a highlight/lowlight effect. We sealed the entire project with lacquer.

Shop vac and an extension hose gets all those nooks and crannies with only a minimum of effort. -HS.

If you’ve got a large room, it would be awesome! Alas, in my tiny bedrooms, I can only love from afar… – HS.
