I create a pallet bed and its headboard using old wooden boards. For the bed structure, I used scaffold boards, about 4.5 cm thick and 20 cm high, planed and smoothed. For the headboard and bed staves, I used wooden boards taken from old pallets. For the staves I used the pallet structure as it was, just smoothed and cut to fill in the bed shape. For the headboard, I had to unnail the boards to work on them separately. Then, after cutting and smoothing, I reassembled them. Don't forget to put some felts under the pallet bed structure to facilitate bed moving and to keep safe the floor!
About painting, I made the first layer with a white background paint and then made other two painting layers with a white lack for wood. To have a smooth surface you have to smooth the wood with thin sandpaper between each layer of paint. For the colored boards on the headboard, I made the same work using colored lacquer instead of white. When you use colored lack, don't smooth the final layer, to don't damage its shining.
All the job took two full days of work.
The structure is conceived to use only boards and not entire wood panels because it was just what I had at the beginning: boards. So, I need to that all these boards stay together, one upon the other, to reach the right height of the pallet bed from the floor. This is why I used only small part of scaffold boards to make parts of Union for front and back of the structure.
It's harder to explain than to do! Don't worry; it's an easy job!
